A few things...
Hi! I am your Alpha Success instructor at Swift Creek Middle School. My name is Jeanna Cripe and I have been teaching for around 12 years. I have lived in two states-only one time, two states-two times, one state-three times, and a final state-four times. So, how many times have I moved (across state lines) in total?
I am a daughter of a (now retired) Professor & Associate Dean at FSU and a retired Naval Seabee and Mechanic. I am the mother of my own dragon, Nelly, AND I am a "zookeeper" to our two cats.
I am sure that all teachers are supposed to tell you that they love to read...and I really do, but I also love to play video games! I enjoy researching new things on the internet, swimming, relaxing at Paint-a-Pot at FSU, watching movies from graphic novels/comic books, archery, and I really enjoy watching sports...especially FSU. (But also the Ducks from the University of Oregon)
I really enjoy learning new things about technology, participating social justice events, and supporting a student's social-emotional journey through life because everyone's life and customs are different, everyone's needs are different, and everyone's learning styles are different. I hope this course blends all of this to help you be successful!
Experience & Background
A two (soon to be three) time graduate from the best university in the world...duh, Florida State University! I earned my Bachelor & Master Degrees from the College of Education. Since then I have taught in three different states.
I moved to Iowa for a year to teach at a school that was closing called Devonshire. This school supported students with significant behavioral disorders and I was one of three high school teachers. I moved back to Tallahassee and taught for a year in Cairo, GA at Cairo High School. I did return to Iowa the next year to teach at an amazing elementary school in Waterloo called Lou Henry Elementary where I supported students with exceptionalities and co-taught math with some of the most incredible teachers for three years. BUT I missed teaching older kids so, I was offered to teach at the Starmont School District for students with exceptionalities and as their ESL Director.
It was at Starmont that I learned all about information literacy and HAD to do more for students. I returned home (Tallahassee) to start working on my PhD in information. During that time I have served our Leon County School District as a Program Specialist for Behavior and came to fall madly in love with Swift Creek Middle School since it was one of my assigned schools. I am still working on my dissertation and hope to graduate soon, but during that time, I am here to serve as your Alpha Success Instructor!
